[Quick reminder: Bash all barrles at the start, they will give you a head start and a chance at some good blueprints]
[Harvesting bodies won’t hurt you, good for free meat and getting you your first weapon: The Bone Club]
So now you’ve got your spear, what now?
Go and bash some more rocks until you get more stone and wood and craft yourselves a pick and a hatchet. Now that you got yourself these tools its time to get some cloth, wood and stone. Try get around 80 cloth. I would recommend that you pick up weed (hemp fibres) as they offer 20 cloth for basically doing nothing and they are easy to get your hands on unlike in the real world.
DO NOT MAKE CLOTHES WITH THIS CLOTH- Clothing is a waste of cloth unless you want to go into the snow. Instead use up about 50 cloth on a bow which is a lot better for defending yourself.
Also try get as much animal fat as possible to make a furnace because there is nothing worse than not having a code lock on your door.
[This sounds quite mean but to survive, kill nakeds, you never know what they are carrying, it could be 5,000 wood that you need or a blueprint that you do not have]
Now your set, these are the things you should have
-Stone hatchet & pickaxe
-Spear & bow
-Sleeping bag
-200 cloth
-6,000 wood (or around this area)
-2,000 stone (this is for the furnaces and upgrading foundations)
-Building plan & hammer
What you want to do is find a nice area to live where you can thrive over the naked population.
To set yourselves above everybody else make sure you pick the right location.
These are some of the perks of different areas.
[DO NOT BUILD NEXT TO LARGE CLANS NO MATTER WHAT! They will destroy you and there is almost nothing you can do]
Water-
PROs
You’re surrounded by water meaning nakeds won’t sit at your door
Resources depending what water you build in
CONS
Hard to build in
Cold when you swim out
You’re surrounded by water meaning no nakeds
Deserts-
PROS
Lots of rocks to go around you will be able to upgrade your base quickly
You will never be short of ores
Flat land to stop raiders from getting natural cover
Also plenty of crude oil if you have a pump jack
CONS
Not much wood
Very open and visible when you are building
Close to no animals
Cold at night
Snowy areas- [Most Recommended]
PROS
Some wood
Lots of High Quality Metal (quarry or not)
Some ore
Some animals
No nakeds (they freeze to death and avoid these areas)
CONS
You need at least 300 cloth to move into these areas as you need clothing
Cold as hell
Not many nakeds to kill
Forests-
PROS
Plenty of wood
Plenty of animals
Plenty of nakeds
Not cold or hot
CONS
Lots of people live in this areas
Lots of cover for attackers
Not much ore
GrassLands-
PROS
Medium ore and wood
Animals
Hard for raiders due to lack over cover
Not cold or hot
It rains which means water
CONS
Very open
Lots of people live in these areas
It rains which means you get wet 😉
Alright so there are all the areas and I have pretty much covered the ups and downs.
You want to make sure you pick a balanced area where you can find both rocks, trees, animals and barrles. Also make sure to avoid towns as they become rape-zones for any new starters as so many people live around there. In general the amount of progress you can make close to them is zero. You can still consider building close to them but make sure you are at least a 3 min walk away.
If you don’t have many blueprints make sure you build decently close to a road, but not too close otherwise you’re gonna have a bad time
This should be all you need to pick the appropriate area to live in.
Next chapter what kind of base you should build.
[Something to remeber before building: Always upgrade pillars (don’t skip them)]
You want to avoid building a normal house, they look nice but will get utterly destroyed trust me, they are easy raids and require close to no c4.
When you pick your spot you want to make sure you have at least space for a 3×3.
Start off by building a 2×2 with foundations around the side like this.
Make sure that you leave the middle space for the authorisation cupboard which you want to get down quick. Remeber don’t block it off until everyone you want is authorised to it!
Now after upgrading that 2×2 work your way to making the whole first floor. Make sure you do not build until you have the resoruces!
Once you got the lay out going this is how I would recommend you to lay your house out, put the tool cupboard where ever you find suitable
Now you have completed your first floor. This is the first mark of growth that will take your shack to a fortress. Now fill that shizzle up something like this. You can throw spikes around the edge if you feel unsafe on the first floor. Make sure you get your first & second floor done as quick as possible to stop those ladderers*
Your second floor should look like this-
I removed the picture because ladder raiding is no longer possible
(I will put in a new second story floor picture soon)
Make sure your house is at least 3 stories!
Now you’ve got further than alot of nakeds. You should feel proud. Now keep building up but remeber to upgrade as you go and remeber pillars.
Now that you have yor base down
DO NOT
BE ASHAMED
to farm for Blueprints (really good boost to maybe get you a revolver bp or something)
It helps a lot
(make sure you farm for trustworthy people)
I will keep updating this guide depending on your feedback but for now enjoy! It should help you out in the New Rust
You want to move out of the rank of roaming like nakeds constantly with a bow.
[Note: Make sure you have a Research Table for this part and lots of blueprint fragments]
If you can’t make any guns gather up your group and get geared with bows (high velocity recommend since it is easy to achieve headshots) and go roaming the lands. Whenever you hear gunfire head towards the direction and try scrape up one of the guns, the second you have this run home and take it to your research table. Begin the researching process as you want to gain the ability to make guns. If you haven’t had the chance to research the gun do not roam with it as it is not worth the loss. However if the gun drops to a very low percentage feel free to use it as it can help you get new guns.
Now you’ve hopefully survived and got yourself a gun if it didn’t work try again as a naked scavenging gun fights and such.
This is a good none barrel farming method.
If you are looking for gear use the same process except finding armor is easier in barrels, keep that in mind.
This is my personal gun ranking with notes for each gun (meele weapons not included)
{{Fire Arms & Projectiles:}}
Revovler: Not good for much except defending against nakeds, easy to get
Bow: Does plenty of damage 90% of the time 1 hit headshot
Pipe Shotgun: Great if there is someone sitting infront of your door!
Custom Smg: Good for spraying and gun fights, doesn’t do much damage
Thompson: Good damage, easy to make, good all rounder gun
Semi-Automatic Pistol: Very accurate and cheap and does plenty of damage
Shotgun: Highly under estimated; Does a lot of damage when used properly and can kill many people. Also has plenty of cheap ammo types: Slug, Homemade shells etc
Bolt Action: Great for sniping people and home defence can down people in about 2 shots and always and insta kill when hitting flesh (eyes sockets, ribs and so on)
Assault Rifle and Bolt action tie for first as they both do a lot of damage and are extremely effective
Quite costly,
{{Armor:}} (Not in order)
Coffe Can Helmet: blocks most damage from head on but not from sides also has a big eye slit which is relatively easy to hit.
Bucket Helmet: Has high surface area good for farming as protection from all sides but not as much as coffe can.
Riot Helmet:
Very good overall defence and it a combination of half bucket and half coffe can which is very nice when doing activites such as roaming and looting rads
Metal Face Mask: Extremely high protection from front Medium from top but none from back and sides.
Metal Chest plate: Lots of protection from back and front makes you either hot or cold in deserts and snow lands and does not offer protection from sides
[Jacket was removed since it doesn’t act as much of an armour any more]
Road-Sign Kilt: Best leg protection for mid/high geared players and costs barely anything
Road-Sign Jacket: Good replacement for metal chest plate and is cheap. Very visible and people are more likely to kill you for it
Bone set: Relatively good camoflauge, would only recommend when looting and not wanting to risk gear
Wood Set: Good start if you have the bp’s and cost close to nothing, not really worth it though as you could use the 500 wood to smelt some metal.
There’s a trick for maxing out the most your furnaces makes. Most people do something called 3 stacking where you get 3x production speed of metal ore where the 3 stacks are placed into the furnace but it is possible to make a 4 stack. By placing 4 stacks of metal ore 1 stack of wood and 1 metal fragment into the furnace you make metal at 4x times the speed and there will be no charcoal as a sacrifice. This can be applied to campfires.
If your going out killing players with not much gear take 4 spears out with you. This will help you a lot as you are able to constantly throw out spears dealing damage. Make sure to only throw 3 spears and keep the last one for stabbing as you do not want to lose all your weapons.
When building an airlock make sure it is 2 in hight then place a window ontop of the door that enters your house. This window can be used to throw bean cans or grenades in to kill pesky intruders.
[Diagram will soon be provided]
It may sound pretty simple but A LOT of players do not do this. When you are in your inventory you are still able to move around. Whilst looting bodies make sure you are hitting those WASD keys constantly to make sure you don’t get easily hit and killed while grabbing that loot. The amount of players that don’t do this is sad.
Have a secondary stash. People never do this and it just surpises me so much. You can store some guns and armour in these places or tools to get yourself back on your feet. These stashes can be hidden in such simple places as watch towers that your base might have or a little wooden hut on a rock that looks unfinished. These are very helpful.
Hide stashes in good places. Most people hide their stashes near rocks and near their base. These are the easiest ones to find. If you have a lake or river near by think about hiding your stash in their.
You may not realise but building in raided bases is very effective. Do not repair this places but simply build inside them as it looks completly destroyed. These are good for people playing by themselves as they provide spacing and many people won’t find very small activity sucpicous leaving your base in secrecy.
Farm for BP’s, most clans are too lazy to farm for themselves and probably have spare bp’s lying around which are probably useful to you. So don’t feel ashamed to do it! Ask around on the server. It also establishes good trade as the clans might possibly defend you as they see you as a (relatively free) worker.
